Shorebirds Game Notes vs. Kannapolis

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds kickstarted their homestand with a 5-1 victory, cruising after a four-run 1st inning. Sebastian Vader won his fifth straight start, improving to 6-1 on the year. Trey Mancini and Drew Dosch each contributed multi-hit games, and Jon Keller finished off the game with two scoreless innings. Delmarva will try to take a 2-0 series lead on Friday night.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Thad Lowry will start game two for Kannapolis on Friday evening. Lowry is the newest addition to the Intimidators' rotation, having made just one start so far. The right- hander lost his debut despite allowing just one run on three hits in five innings against Hickory. Lowry pitched for the Bristol White Sox, going 3-5 with a 5.48 ERA in the Applachian League. The Chicago White Sox drafted Lowry in the 5th round of the 2013 MLB Draft.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles lost in extras to the Cleveland Indians, 8-7 in 13 innings. The O's blew a 5-2 lead, as they have dropped 7 of their last 10. Besides the losses, another con- cern is that Manny Machado left the game with right groin tightness. Baltimore has falled to 3rd place in the AL East, 1 1/2 back of the Toronto Blue Jays.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

WHO'S HOT/WHO ELSE

CHANCE SISCO | C

On Saturday night, Chance Sisco hit his first home run of the season, and just his second as a pro. The Shorebirds' catcher went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs in the 11-4 victory. Sisco is currently working on an ten-game hitting streak, his longest stretch of the year. Sisco, the Orioles' 2nd round pick in 2013, is now batting .269 on the season.

WHO'S HOT - JIMMY YACABONIS

Through his first 14 appearances, the Del- marva closer has yet to allow a run. Yacabo- nis is perfect 10-for-10 in save opportunities with a 1-0 record. In 15.0 innings, Yacabonis has struck out 20 batters.

WHO ELSE - DREW DOSCH

In Kannapolis, Dosch hit his first two home runs of the season. On Friday, Dosch's two- run blast gave the Shorebirds a 4-2 in extra innings. The third baseman leads the team with a .317 batting average on the year.
