
Power Outlasts Lakewood

(Charleston, WV- May 23, 2014) - The West Virginia Power bested the Lakewood BlueClaws on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park, 8-6. The Power scored in three consecutive innings from the second to the fourth to pull away behind a strong start from Justin Topa.
The Power took the early advantage in the second, scoring twice on an RBI single from Elvis Escobar. The 'Claws scored on in the top of the third, but the Power responded with another run on an Edwin Espinal sacrifice fly scoring Harold Ramirez.
Lakewood came back with another score in the top of the fourth, but once again the Power answered, this time in a big way. West Virginia plated three runs in the inning behind an RBI double off the bat of Escobar as well as run-scoring base hits from Ramirez and Reese McGuire.
Power starter Justin Topa (3-2) earned the win, throwing five innings and allowing two runs with five strikeouts. Lakewood hurler Alejandro Arteaga (3-6) was charged with the loss and Power reliever Bretty McKinney (2) tallied the save. Elvis Escobar tallied four RBIs with a 3-for-4 performance while Harold Ramirez added a pair of runs batted in. Reese McGuire extended his hit streak to 14 games with a pair of hits and an RBI and JaCoby Jones posted a 3-for-5 game.
