'Dads Leave Win on the Bases in 6-3 Loss

Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads kept the hits coming Friday night with 11 total knocks against the visiting Charleston RiverDogs, but the hits didn't translate to runs as the 'Dads lost to the 'Dogs 6-3 in front a season-high 3,993 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.
The Hickory hitters produced their fifth straight game of at least nine total hits, with seven of the nine starters getting at least one hit. The Charleston lineup proved to be the more efficient unit however, with the RiverDogs turning their nine hits into six runs while leaving seven men on base.
The missed opportunities began in the first for the Crawdads, as the team loaded the bases with nobody out only to exit the frame empty handed. The 'Dads came through for their first run in the 2nd, with Evan Van Hoosier picking up a 2-out, RBI single to left to score Jairo Beras for a 1-0 lead.
The score held until the 4th, when the RiverDogs lineup utilized their second look against Crawdads starter Cole Wiper into three runs on three hits for a 4-1 advantage. The 'Dogs doubled down in the 5th, chasing Wiper from the game with three more tallies on four hits to push the 'Dads deficit to 6-1.
The Crawdads would go on to leave four runners in scoring position over the next four innings, before leaving the bases loaded for the second time in the game in the 7th. The bats made a late rally attempt in the 8th, with Kellin Delgan singling and scoring on a passed ball before Van Hoosier reached on a fielder's choice and eventually came home on a RBI single by Nick Vickerson to cut the sore to 6-3. That would be the last of the Hickory hits though, as the 'Dads went down in order in the 9th for the 6-3 defeat.
DH Joe Jackson led the Crawdads offense with a 3-4 game with a double. Jackson now boasts a 6-game hitting streak including five multi-hit games in the stretch. Vickerson (2-4, RBI, BB) and Deglan (2-4, 2B, R) joined Jackson with a multi-hit game in the loss.
Charleston starting pitcher Brady Lail (7-1) earned the win after his bend-but-don't-break start that ended with one run allowed on six hits, one walk, and five strikeouts over five innings pitched. Wiper (2-6) took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits, three walks, and 5 Ks over 4.1 innings.
The Crawdads (22-24) and RiverDogs (24-22) will meet up again on Saturday at 6:00 pm for game three of their four-game series.
