Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Fans who came to Fluor Field on Friday night to see Stephen Drew, a Greenville Drive (24-21) victory and postgame fireworks hit the trifecta. It was the Drive pitching staff who stole the show, as three hurlers combined to spin a two-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Augusta GreenJackets (22-25).
Joe Gunkel, Jacob Dahlstrand and Mike Adams shut down Augusta all game long. Gunkel fired four hitless innings, allowing only a walk, while striking out six. Jacob Dahlstrand (3-2) picked up the victory with three scoreless innings of his own, and Mike Adams finished things off with two hitless frames to earn his second save.
Greenville's run in the bottom of the first against Augusta starter Matt Lujan (5-2) was the only one they'd need. Jimmy Rider singled to center to begin the frame, and Drew followed in his first at-bat with the Drive by smacking a sharp single down the right-field line to put runners on the corners. Two batters later, Carlos Asuaje's groundout to shortstop plated Rider.
The Drive added a run in the seventh inning for good measure, as Tzu-Wei Lin drew a bases loaded walk against Augusta's Steven Messner.
Drew played five innings for the Drive, making several plays defensively and going 1-2 at the plate with a single and a strikeout.
The two teams will meet for game three of the four-game series on Saturday night at 7:05. LH Trey Ball (1-3, 9.42) starts on the mound for the Drive, and the GreenJackets will send LH Christian Jones (2-3, 2.88) to the hill.
