Wranglers clinch playoff spot for second straight year

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers posted a 3-1-0 record last week, starting with a 3-2 shootout win over Idaho on Tuesday night at the Orleans Arena. Las Vegas edged Phoenix 3-2 on Thursday night at the U.S. Airways Center. Friday night, Las Vegas defeated Phoenix 6-2 at the Orleans Arena. The RoadRunners bounced back with a 4-1 win at the Orleans Arena on Saturday night.

The Wranglers clinched a playoff spot for the third time in four seasons. Las Vegas will host Idaho on Tuesday at 7:05 pm. Friday and Saturday night the Wranglers host the Texas Wildcatters at 7:05 pm. Friday night, the Wranglers will hand out team player card sets to the first 2,000 fans, compliments of Cox Communications. On Saturday, fans may attend the Port of Subs Pre-Game Party from 4:30 - 6:30 pm in the concourse of the Orleans Arena.

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Idaho Steelheads 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday night in front of 3,680 fans at the Orleans Arena. Wranglers' goalie Mike McKenna stopped 30 shots in regulation and four of five shots in the shootout for his 17th win of the season. Forward Marco Peluso scored a shorthanded goal in regulation and the deciding goal in the shootout for the win. Rookie Kelly Czuy scored the only other Wranglers goal in regulation. Goalie Steve Silverthorn made 27 saves for Idaho in the loss.

Las Vegas 3 at Phoenix 2

Phoenix, AZ - The Las Vegas Wranglers edged the Phoenix RoadRunners 3-2 at the U.S. Airways Center on Thursday night. Center Chris Neiszner scored his 16th goal of the season at 6:51 of the third period for the eventual game-winner. Forwards Kelly Czuy and Joe Tallari each had a goal and an assist. Goalie Kevin Nastiuk made 23 saves, improving to 12-7-6 on the season. Phoenix goalie Cody Rudcowsky made 37 saves in the loss for Phoenix.

Friday, March 2nd

Phoenix 2 at Las Vegas 6

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Phoenix Roadrunners 6-2 on Friday night in front of 6,520 fans at the Orleans Arena. Wranglers' forward Derek Edwardson scored twice and added an assist in the Las Vegas win. Line mates Steve Crampton (0G, 3A) and Shawn Limpright (1G, 3A) combined for a goal and six assists. Wranglers' defensemen Ryan Bonni and Scott Schoneck each added a goal. Wranglers' goalie Mike McKenna made 17 saves, improving to 18-3-6 on the season. Roadrunners' forwards Justin Aikins and Brock Hooton each scored in the loss.

Saturday, March 3rd

Phoenix 4 at Las Vegas 1

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers were defeated by the Phoenix Roadrunners 4-1 on Saturday night in front of 6,011 fans at the Orleans Arena. Wranglers' defenseman Jason Josza scored the lone goal for Las Vegas. Goalie Kevin Nastiuk made 15 saves for the Wranglers in the loss. Phoenix goalie Cody Rudkowsky make 32 saves for the Phoenix victory. Phoenix winger Todd Jackson and defenseman Dusty Demianiuk each registered a goal and an assist in the win.

Idaho Steelheads - (31-19-5, 67 points, 2nd Place, West) -

Las Vegas leads the season series with a 6-1-2 record in the previous nine meetings. Las Vegas is 18-10-7 all-time against Idaho. Goalie Steve Silverthorn leads the ECHL with 27 wins. Forward Marty Flichel leads the Steelheads in scoring with 31 goals and 39 assists for 70 points in 53 games played. Flichel Is fourth in the league scoring race. Winger Lance Galbraith has 22 points in his last ten games played.

Texas Wildcatters - (32-18-9, 73 points, 2nd Place, South) -

Las Vegas leads the all-time series with a 2-0-0 all-time record. Texas returns after missing last season due to Hurricane Rita. The Wildcatters are enjoying their best season under new head coach Malcolm Cameron. Texas has the fifth highest point total in the ECHL. Mike Bayrack (28g, 39a) ranks seventh in the ECHL in points, while line-mate Kevin Baker (31g, 35a) ranks eighth. Goalie Matt Yeats is 24-16-7 with a 3.0 goals against average.
