CHARLOTTE - The Charlotte Checkers community involvement remains priority for the players, coaches and front office staff, as they gear up for the playoff drive.

Listed below are the Checkers community events through the first two months of 2007.

Jan. 19: AutoTrader.com presented Race Night benefiting Victory Junction Gang Camp. $38,000 was raised for the camp. In addition AutoTrader.com donated a golf cart to be used at Victory Junction.

Jan. 28: Third Annual Tip-a-Checker at Brixx uptown. Checkers players acted as waiters, sold raffle tickets and performed for fans in a consolidated effort to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Over $4000 was generated for the non-profit.

Feb. 2: 80's Night/Alumni Night featured alumni groups based in Charlotte representing colleges from all over the country. $4188 was raised for various alumni groups.

Feb. 9: Fletcher School player appearance. Kenton Smith, Dan Murphy, Nathan Gillies and Bryan Rodney participated in school activities to promote the schools fundraiser on Feb. 11.

Feb. 10: Charlotte Checkers Blood Drive benefiting the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. Fourteen units of blood were collected to be utilized within 7-10 days of the event to save the lives of 42 patients in the Charlotte community.

Feb. 10: Ross Minor Fundraiser Night. Sponsors a plenty, friends, family and strangers alike joined together to raise money through the Checkers ticket fundraiser program for the Minor Family. Ross Minor suffered a gun shot wound to the head in June of 2006 and as a result is completely blind. $5602 was generated amongst all parties for the Ross Minor Medical Fund.

Feb. 11: Checkers inaugural Pink in the Rink which raised over $30,000 for American Cancer Society, Carolina Breast Friends and Mary Kay Ash. Players donned specialty pink jerseys that were auctioned off after the game as part of the fundraising elements.

Feb 11: Fletcher School Fundraiser. The Fletcher School raised $1980 through the Checkers ticket sales fundraiser.

Feb 16: Jeff Longo spoke at the Arts and Science Council Public Report Luncheon in support of the upcoming ASC fundraiser at the Checkers Feb. 22 game. Chubby, the Checkers' mascot, also attended the luncheon.

Feb. 22: Arts and Science Council Fundraising Night with the Checkers. Checkers help raise $1,008 for the ASC via the ticket fundraising program.

The Checkers are back in action at home Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday this week. The Checkers host Augusta tomorrow night and South Carolina on Thursday - both games are at 7:00 pm. Sunday is the Checkers "Salute to Heroes" as the Checkers host Gwinnett at 4:00 pm. Following the Checkers game, and post-game skate, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will square off against the Charlotte Fire Department for the Heroes Cup.
