
Stockton Thunder Declares March Be Cool*Read! Month

STOCKTON, Calif. -The Stockton Thunder announced today that March is Be Cool*Read! month and that players will be making several local appearances this month to promote the team's youth reading program.
The program, sponsored by Clearwire, Dreyer's Ice Cream and 99.3 KJOY will officially kickoff tomorrow, Tuesday, March 6, from 5-6 p.m. at the 963 March Lane Clearwire store with a special appearance by Thunder players Tim O'Connell (#21) and Tim Sestito (#17).
O'Connell and Sestito will be on-hand to read a children's book, sign autographs and meet with fans. Also, children that visit the store will receive a voucher good for a ticket to one of the Thunder's Be Cool*Read! nights. Fans can chose between either Friday, March 30 or Wednesday, April 4 to redeem their vouchers.
For the next three weeks, different Thunder players will visit Clearwire locations to read to young fans and sign autographs. In addition to the March 6 appearance, on Tuesday, March 13, Tim Verbeek (#32) and Adam Huxley (#12) will be at the Clearwire store in the Sherwood Mall from 5-6 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 20, Devan Dubnyk (#40) and Liam Reddox (#10) will be at the Clearwire location at 963 March Lane.
"We are very excited that Clearwire has agreed to host our player reading appearances," said Brenda Bryant, Thunder Director of Communications. "We are so happy to have a partner that shares our love of literacy programs and look forward to having several fun nights at their stores this month."
The team will also be promoting the program on their website with special features including Thunder players' stories about their favorite books and a contest that fans can enter by sending in book reports or artwork that depicts their favorite children's books.
Students at area schools will also have a chance to receive vouchers to the Be Cool*Read! games by meeting their school's reading criteria for the month of March.
The Thunder is the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers. Thunder season tickets, mini-plans, and individual tickets for the 2006-07 season are on sale now.
