The Week That Was:

The Stingrays traveled down to Pensacola last weekend to play a back-to-back series against the Ice Pilots. South Carolina split the series 1-1-0. The team is now 27-22-7 for 61 points and sixth place in the South Division.

On Saturday night, Pensacola started the scoring in the first period on a power play goal by Nate Metcalf, but the Stingrays quickly tied in up with a Matt Reid power play goal just three minutes later. From there the Stingrays controlled the pace. Led by three goals from Matt Reid, his first hat trick of the season, the Stingrays went on to defeat the Ice Pilots 5-4, despite a third period, two-goal comeback by Pensacola.

On Sunday night, the game started off the same with a goal by Pensacola followed by a goal from the Stingrays, but the Stingrays could not hold back Rob Rankin who had a hat trick in the game. The Ice Pilots has three unanswered goals in the third period and ultimately defeated the Stingrays 7-2.

Team News:

The Stingrays are 27-22-7 for 61 points. The two points they earned this weekend keeps them two points behind the Checkers for sixth place in the South Division.

The Stingrays are 8th place in the conference and 13th in the league.

Cail MacLean remains on the 7-day IR and Nate Kiser was placed on the 3-day IR following successful elbow surgery last week.

Matt Reid was loaned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, but returned to the Stingrays for the games this weekend against Pensacola where he had three goals and two assists in the two games.

Donny Grover remains with the Hershey Bears.

Special Teams: The Stingrays rank 2nd at home on the power play converting 22.1% of the time, and remain last in the league on the road only converting 11.4%. Overall, the Rays are 8th with a 17.3%.

For the penalty kill, the Stingrays are 15th at home with 82.7%, 8th on the road with 84.9% and 11th overall with 83.8%

The Stingrays are averaging 3.39 goals a game this season, which is 11th in the league, and are allowing an average of 3.55 goals a game, 17th in the league.

Viktor Dovgan is 2nd among ECHL rookies in minor penalties with 35.

Despite not playing last weekend, Nate Kiser remains third among defensemen in penalty minutes with his 193 and fourth in major penalties with eleven.

Davis Parley remains third in wins with 25. He is first in minutes (2854), second in saves (1434) and first in overtime wins (5).

The battle for the playoffs continues as the Stingrays and Checkers play on Thursday night in Charlotte. The Rays are 2-5-2 against the Checkers and currently trail the team by two points in the standings.

The Reading Royals come to town for a back-to-back series with the Stingrays. This is the first meeting of the two teams this season and the Stingrays are 2-3-0 overall against the Royals.
