WooSox Win for 10th Time in Last 12 Games, 5-0 Over IronPigs
June 21, 2023 - International League (IL)
Worcester Red Sox News Release
WORCESTER, M.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (37-34) tied a season-best with their fifth straight victory, a 5-0 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (34-35) on Wednesday night at Polar Park.
WooSox starter Kyle Barraclough (1-0), signed from the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League yesterday, was stellar in his Red Sox organizational debut. The right-hander tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with four walks and two strikeouts.
Barraclough began his drive from North Carolina on Sunday, and three days later, he allowed just a lone hit, a bunt single to Cal Stevenson in the third.
Offensively, Worcester scored four of its five runs on RBI singles.
Ronaldo Hernandez began the scoring in the first-with two on, he ripped a 107-mile-per hour single to left for his 20th RBI of the month of June, a mark that ranks second in the International League.
In the second, Nick Sogard stepped up with a man on second and flared a broken bat knock to center, plating Narciso Crook. Two innings later, Sogard made it a multi-RBI night with a sac-fly to center to make it 3-0.
Narciso Crook and Wilyer Abreu added run-scoring singles in the fourth and fifth, respectively. Abreu returned from the injured list (hamstring) on Wednesday night, making his first appearance since May 31.
Cam Booser, Chase Shugart and A.J. Politi each tossed runless frames out of the bullpen, locking down the WooSox' second shutout win of the season. Worcester is now 10-2 over its last 12 games.
The WooSox continue the six-game series at Polar Park on Thursday night at 6:45 p.m. against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. On the mound, Norwith Gudino (2-4, 6.69) faces T.J. Zeuch (2-3, 5.54). Television coverage is on NESN, while radio coverage is live at 6:25 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network.
