 Worcester Red Sox News Release
WORCESTER, M.A. - For the second straight night, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (55-36) pitchers dominated the night, this time a 14-2 win over the Worcester Red Sox (48-46).
The WooSox were held hitless until one out in the eighth inning, when Chad De La Guerra lined a single to left field that snapped a 52-batter stretch without a hit. De La Guerra was rewarded with a standing ovation from the 8,331 in attendance, and one batter later, Jett Bandy gave the home team its first run of the game with a double down the line. Bandy then scored on an RBI groundout by the next hitter, Jeremy Rivera.
Offensively, the RailRiders scored in five of their nine offensive innings, starting with a four-run second. Kyle Holder delivered a two-run double in the frame, one of three RBI extra base hits for Scranton on the day.
The game was 4-0 until Jonathan Davis came to the plate in the fourth inning with two men on. Davis crushed a three-run home run over the Worcester Wall, going the other way for a three-run shot to make it 7-0.
After a Chris Gittens RBI single in the sixth, Rob Brantly delivered a three-run double extend to the lead to 11-0 at that point, one that would grow to 14-0 after the top of the eighth on 16 hits before the WooSox got two back in the bottom of the frame.
Worcester starter Kutter Crawford took the loss, allowing seven runs over 3.2 innings. Alex Claudio and Durbin Feltman were highlights out of the pen, each tossing scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth, respectively
The WooSox continue the eight-game series Saturday at 4:05 p.m. against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at Polar Park. Television coverage is on NESN+, while radio coverage starts live at 3:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network. Connor Seabold (0-3, 4.81) is Worcester's scheduled starter.
