Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. -- The Omaha Storm Chasers carried a one-run lead into the eighth inning on Thursday at Werner Park, but lost to the Columbus Clippers, 8-3. It was the fourth consecutive loss for Omaha (49-42), matching the longest losing streak of the season.
The Storm Chasers took an early lead when designated hitter Nick Pratto crushed a three-run homer over the right-field fence in the first inning against Columbus (42-48) left-hander Kirk McCarty.
Right-hander Jakob Junis, who was activated off the Injured List before the game, made his first start with the Storm Chasers since June 29 and threw 3.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
Right-hander Eddie Butler entered in relief and tossed 2.0 shutout innings before allowing a pair to score in the sixth. After a Trenton Brooks walk and a Nolan Jones double put runners on second and third with one out, Brooks scored on a wild pitch for the Clippers' first run. Oscar Gonzalez brought in the second run of the inning with an infield single.
Right-hander Kyle Zimmer (Loss, 1-1) made a rehab appearance in the eighth inning, pitching for the second consecutive day. Andruw Monasterio gave Columbus the lead with a bases-loaded, two-run single before the final run of the inning scored from third on a wild pitch. Ryan Lavarnway added the Clippers' final three runs in the ninth with a three-run homer against right-hander Tyler Zuber.
Right-hander Matt Koch (Win, 2-2), right-hander Robert Broom, and left-hander Anthony Gose combined for four scoreless and hitless innings of relief for the Clippers.
The Storm Chasers continue a six-game series with the Columbus Clippers on Friday, when left-hander Jake Kalish (2-3, 7.43) faces Columbus right-hander Cody Morris (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. CT with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
