Erie SeaWolves News Release
A season-high crowd of 5,592 watched the SeaWolves snap a four-game losing streak on Monday night at Jerry Uht Park, stomping the Binghamton Mets 7-1.
The SeaWolves struck first in the first inning against Binghamton starter Brandon Moore. Francisco Martinez tripled to right with two outs to continue the inning. Deik Scram put Erie ahead with an RBI double to right for a 1-0 lead. Scram moved to third on a Rawley Bishop ground ball error. Michael Bertram and Justin Henry hit consecutive singles putting the 'Wolves ahead 3-0.
The 'Wolves continued to swing hot sticks in the second. Brandon Douglas led off with a single and Jamie Johnson walked putting two on for Gustavo Nunez. Nunez singled through the right side on a hit and run and Douglas scored for a 4-0 lead. With one out, Scram drilled his second home run of the year over the wall in right. The three-run blast put the SeaWolves ahead 7-0.
The Mets got on the board in the top of the ninth against reliever Jared Gayhart when Salomon Manriquez snapped Erie's shutout bid with a solo home run to left making it 7-1. Gayhart would strike out the final two ending the game.
Erie starter Casey Crosby was stellar in his first start since returning from the disabled list. He worked 5.2 shutout innings and did not allow a hit until the final batter he faced, a two-out single by Josh Satin in the sixth. Crosby struck out six while walking three, improving his record to 5-2.
The SeaWolves will take on the Mets in doubleheader action on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park beginning at 6:05. Lefty Jay Voss (3-2, 3.79 ERA) takes the mound for Erie in game one and LHP Ramon Garcia (2-3, 5.93 ERA) takes the mound for Erie in game two.
