Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announce that RHP Chase Whitley has been promoted from Advanced A Tampa. In a corresponding move, RHP Fernando Hernandez has been promoted to Triple A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre. The moves leave the Thunder roster at its maximum of 24 active players.
Whitley, a native of Ranburne, Alabama, has appeared in 23 games for Advanced A Tampa this season, going 0-1 with a 1-68 ERA and six saves. A 15th round selection by the Yankees in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, Whitley spent most of 2010 with the Staten Island Yankees where he went 4-2 with a 1.31 ERA and 28 saves.
With the season-long nine-game road trip behind them, the Thunder will open a seven-game homestand at Waterfront Park Monday for the first of three games with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays). Trenton's RHP Craig Heyer (6-3, 3.45) will hurl the first pitch at 7:05 PM. New Hampshire will send RHP Henderson Alvarez (4-2, 2.30) to the mound. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM.
Monday night is MLB Network Night and also the fourth installment of the Thunder's Souvenir Travel Cup series, which will be handed out to the first 1,000 fans ages six and older. The Thunder will also welcome former Major League All-Star and television personality Harold Reynolds as well as award-winning author Liz Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love) to Waterfront Park.
