Bowie Baysox News Release
BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today the Independence Day Celebration at Prince George's Stadium Monday, July 4, as the team takes on the Reading Phillies at 6:05 p.m. The event features the popular Independence Day Barbecue, a pregame ceremony honoring Airmen from Andrews Air Force Base, an apple pie eating contest, a display from a charitable organization that benefits veterans and an extended fireworks display.
Baysox Director of Marketing Brandan Kaiser looks forward to the event. "There is no better place to celebrate Independence Day than at the ballpark," Kaiser said. "Our Fourth of July Celebration is always one of the biggest days of the year, and we invite our fans to enter the stadium early, starting at 4:30 p.m. We hope they are ready for the best fireworks display in the region after the game."
Fans can enjoy the game along with a two-hour buffet at the annual Independence Day Picnic. The menu includes grilled all-beef hamburgers and hot dogs, corn on the cob, barbecue baked beans, crunchy chips, chilled watermelon and soft drinks. The buffet is served from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and tickets are $26 for adults, $22 for children ages six to 12, and $22 for season ticket holders. The picnic includes a general admission seat ticket for the games and fans can upgrade to lower reserved seat tickets for $4 each. To order tickets for the picnic, fans can order online at www.baysox.com or contact Jeff Gibbons at (301) 464-4881 or jgibbons@baysox.com by 3 p.m. Friday, June 29.
Before the game, the Baysox honor a pair of Airmen from Andrews Air Force Base on the field. The Airmen will be recognized for their service and throw out ceremonial first pitches. The team also hosts a special pregame Apple Pie Eating Contest on the field before the game.
As they approach the stadium, fans can see the Ford F650 4x4 pickup truck the Truckin4Troops Foundation uses to transport returning servicemen from BWI airport to local hotels. The organization also provides iPod Shuffles with preloaded patriotic songs to wounded veterans at military hospitals. Fans can learn more about the organization at the game or by visiting www.truckin4troops.com.
After the game, the Baysox host one of the finest fireworks displays in the region, with an extended extravaganza that is nearly twice as long as the usual fireworks display.
Individual tickets for the Independence Day Celebration range from $6 to $14, and are available online at www.baysox.com or by calling (301) 464-4865.
