New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, N.H.- New Hampshire Fisher Cats starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 20-26.
The 21-year-old won his only start of the week, pitching seven scoreless innings against the Altoona Curve in a Fisher Cats 1-0 win at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Alvarez allowed just two hits and one walk to the Curve while striking out five batters. The Valencia, Venezuela, native led all Eastern League players with a 0.43 WHIP last week and also tied for first in ERA (0.00) and ranked third in batting average against (.091).
Alvarez, who was recently named to Major League Baseball's 13th Annual XM All-Star Futures Game, is currently 4-2 with a 2.30 ERA in seven starts with New Hampshire and has allowed just one earned run in his last two starts (14 IP). Alvarez has accumulated 27 strikeouts while walking only nine batters on the season while Eastern League hitters have managed just a .209 batting average against him. The Blue Jays' prospect is a perfect 2-0 at home with a 1.32 ERA at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Alvarez has made seven starts for the Fisher Cats since receiving a promotion from Class-A Dunedin on May 19th and has allowed one earned run or less in five of those seven appearances. Henderson, who was named to the Florida State League All-Star Game and also appeared in the MLB XM Futures Game last season with the Dunedin Blue Jays, was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent on August 17, 2006.

Monday night's game will be followed by a Fourth of July Atlas Fireworks Spectacular and fans can play USA Subs Baseball Bingo all game long.
