Chris Dominguez Named Eastern League Player of the Week

RICHMOND, VA - In conjunction with the Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, The Richmond Flying Squirrels have announced that 3B Chris Dominguez has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending June 26th. During the week, the 24-year old hit .458 (11-24), with a home run, seven doubles, a triple, and eight RBIs.

A product of the University of Louisville, Dominguez was promoted to Richmond from Advanced-A San Jose on June 16th. Overall, he is hitting .316 (12-38) in 10 games with the Squirrels. 10 of his 12 hits have been for extra-bases. Prior to his promotion, he helped San Jose to the California League North Division first half title, hitting .291 (75-258) in 63 games. He added 11 home runs and 40 RBIs for the Giants.

Selected in the third round of the 2009 June draft, the native of Los Angeles, CA, is currently in his third professional season. Playing for current Flying Squirrels' manager Dave Machemer in 2010 with the Augusta Greenjackets, he led the South Atlantic League with 21 home runs and 101 RBIs.

Dominguez earns the third weekly award from the Eastern League for the Squirrels during the 2011 season. LHP Eric Surkamp and LHP Ryan Verdugo have each been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. He is the first Eastern League Player of the Week in franchise history.
