Chicago Wolves News Release
PEORIA, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves broke a 2-2 deadlock halfway though the third period and hung on for a 3-2 victory over the Peoria Rivermen at Carver Arena Friday night.
Defenseman Kevin Connauton scored a pair of goals for the Wolves, while blueliner Sebastian Erixon tallied the other marker.
With the score tied at two in the third period, Connauton put the Wolves on top, 3-2, with his second goal of the night at 9:55 when he wristed a shot from the point that got through traffic and past Peoria goaltender Jake Allen.
After a scoreless first period, Chicago (2-0-0-0) opened scoring when Erixon stepped out of the penalty box, picked up the loose puck and skated in on Allen on a breakaway and beat him with a backhand shot, glove-side.
The Wolves doubled their lead with 2:30 remaining in the middle frame. Connauton carried the puck coast to coast and beat Allen on a wrap around.
Allen (0-1-0) kicked out 28 shots for the Rivermen.
Peoria (0-1-0-0) got on the board with a power-play strike with 55 seconds remaining in the second period. Defenseman Danny Syvret took a feed at the point and one-timed a shot past Wolves goaltender Karel St. Laurent.
The Rivermen tied the score at two when center T.J. Hensick ripped a shot past St. Laurent at 6:04 of the third period.
St. Laurent (1-0-0) turned aside 14 of 16 shots after relieving Matt Climie 9:06 into the second period. Climie stopped all 11 shots he faced in 29:06 of action.
The Wolves conclude their preseason slate against the Milwaukee Admirals at the Triphahn Community Center and Ice Arena in Hoffman Estates on Saturday at 6 p.m.
