Hunter, 31, has spent his entire NHL career (2002-03 through 2010-11) with the New York Islanders. Last season he recorded four points (1-34) and 23 penalty minutes in 17 games, missing most of the season with a lower body injury.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Red Deer, Alberta has accumulated 229 career points (99-130229) and 201 penalty minutes during his eight-year NHL career. He has reached the 20-goal mark twice, including a career high 25 goals for the Islanders in 2003-04. That same season Hunter also had a career high 51 points and plus-23 rating, playing in 77 games.
Hunter has also appeared in 14 career NHL playoff games, recording five points (4-15) and six penalty minutes.
He was originally selected by Anaheim in the sixth round (150th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. The Ducks dealt Hunter to the Islanders on May 23, 2000 for a fourth-round selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
