Manchester Monarchs News Release

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, after reaching a verbal agreement last night, have signed restricted free agent defenseman Drew Doughty to an eight-year contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

The eight-year contract is the longest player contract in club history. Kings center Anze Kopitar and defenseman Jack Johnson both signed seven-year contracts, and former Kings great/Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky signed an eight-year contract in 1988 (after the first year, that contract was extended from seven years to nine years).

Check back to LAKings.com later today to view a video interview featuring Doughty, who skated this afternoon at the Toyota Sports Center after signing his contract. He will accompany the team to Las Vegas tomorrow morning and then to Europe tomorrow night.
