Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Admirals picked up goals from five different players en route to a 5-3 win over the Rockford IceHogs in pre-season action in the unofficial first game for new Admirals coach Kirk Muller.
Milwaukee scored four times in the second period to turn a tie game into a three goal lead.
Rockford got on the board first when Brandon Bollig took a nice drop pass from David Toews and beat Ads netminder Jeremy Smith at 7:09 of the opening period.
Ryan Flynn tied the score for Milwaukee when he managed to corral the puck after a Chris Cahill shot with 3:39 left in the first. Just 1:08 into the second, center Joel Champagne put the Ads up 2-1 when he cleaned up the rebound of a Juuso Puustinen attempt.
Milwaukee took a two goal lead with a power-play goal by Jani Lajunen at the 11:08 mark of the second, but less than two minutes later, at 13:03, Jimmy Hayes scored on a breakaway to cut pull Rockford back within a goal.
However, the Admirals got that one back and another as Taylor Aronson scored at 15:55 and Mark Van Guilder lit the lamp at 18:17 to pump the Milwaukee lead to 5-2 after two periods.
Rockford's Shawn Lalonde scored the third only goal, 1:35 into the frame.
Juuso Puustinen (2a), David Leaderer (2a), and Lajunen (1g-1a) each tallied multi-point games for the Ads, while Smith picked up the win in net by turning aside 21 shots.
