Mike Sislo enjoyed a multi-point night registering the Devils first goal three minutes into the game. He later assisted on Whitney's tally. Sislo's opening goal was setup by J.S. Berube and came while on the powerplay.

The Pirates did their damage in the remaining minutes of the first. Donny Maloney made it 1-1 at 3:41 of the first and Spencer Bennett moved Portland ahead, 2-1, at 11:06.
