Wolves and Griffins to Duke it Out For Comcast Cup
December 29, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
The Chicago Wolves and Grand Rapids Griffins will battle for the inaugural Comcast Cup this season, starting when the Wolves visit the Griffins at Van Andel Arena on Sat., Dec. 31 at 6 p.m.
The team that accumulates the most points in the four-game series will be presented with a trophy after the final contest. In addition, the mascot of the losing team will deliver food to the winning team's staff and players.
The Wolves will wager a variety of Chicago-style cheesecakes while the Griffins will wager bushels of home grown fruits and nuts. In the event of a tie, total goals in the series and final regular-season record will be used to determine the winner.
After Saturday, the series continues at Van Andel Arena on Fri, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m., before the teams head back to the Allstate Arena for two tilts on Fri., March 3 at 7:30 p.m., and Sun., March 12 at 3 p.m.
All games - along with the Wolves 80-game regular-season slate and playoffs - will be telecast live on Comcast. Check local listings for the channel designation in your area.
This will be the 10th year that the two teams match up, which includes five seasons in the International Hockey League (1996-2001). The Griffins hold the edge in the all-time series, accruing a 36-23-2-1-2 mark against the Wolves.
Chicago has faced Grand Rapids in the postseason four times, winning three of those series, which includes besting them, 4-games-to-2, in the IHL's 2000 Turner Cup Finals.
