The Story:

Down 4-1 in the second period, the Winterhawks roared back to take a 5-4 shootout victory over the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday night. Robbie Fromm-Delorme led the way with two goals and Dante Giannuzzi stopped 29 of 33 shots to remain unbeaten on the year.

Portland is now 7-0-0 to start the year for the second time in Club history.

Kamloops' usual suspects were up and at 'em early as NHL-drafted players Matthew Seminoff (2) and Logan Stankoven combined for three goals and four points in the opening frame, but Portland entered the first intermission with life thanks to Nicholas Johnson's first-ever WHL goal. The rookie picked up a loose puck after Jonah Bevington won a battle, then wired a shot through the arm and body of Dylan Ernst to get Portland on the board at 8:44.

The Blazers built on their 3-1 lead with an early Caedan Bankier tally in the second, but the Winterhawks began to rally late in the frame. After Fromm-Delorme hammered home a one-timer at 10:43 to make it 4-2, he chipped in his second of the night at 18:39 to bring his club within a goal. Then, just over 30 seconds later, Kyle Chyzowski played a beautiful give-and-go with Dawson Pasternak before ripping another one-timer past Ernst to knot things up at four apiece heading into the third.

A thrilling third period nearly produced a winner, but Fromm-Delorme's would-be hat-trick tally was disallowed late in the frame, setting up overtime. A Portland penalty left the team shorthanded to start the extra frame, but the Hawks' PK came through during a scoreless back-and-forth OT period. In the shootout, James Stefan and Marcus Nguyen tallied for Portland and Dante Giannuzzi came up clutch with a pair of saves to give the Hawks a 5-4 victory.

The Winterhawks are on the road next weekend, taking on the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick at 6:05 P.M. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:

"It's just a relief...felt like a piano dropped off my shoulders. (In the celebration) I for sure blacked out, I had no idea what I was doing."

Winterhawks forward Nicholas Johnson
