Raiders Drop Fourth Straight Contest After 6-1 Loss to Hitmen
October 15, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
The Prince Albert Raiders couldn't contain the Calgary Hitmen, dropping a 6-1 decision at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday night.
Calgary got things started midway through the first period, as Oliver Tulk opened the scoring. Just over two and a half minutes later, Blake Heward doubled the Hitmen's lead to 2-0. The Raiders nearly scored on two different occasions in the opening frame, but Hayden Pakkala and Landon Kosior both hit the crossbar on two separate chances.
However, with just over five minutes to go in the first, Evan Herman brought the Raiders back to within one, scoring his first goal of the season after a scramble play in front of the net. After 20 minutes, the Hitmen led 2-1, trailing in shots 10-9.
Just one goal was scored in the second period, and it came from the visitors. Matteo Daniels scored his second goal of the year to make it a 3-1 Hitmen lead with under five minutes left in the middle frame. The Raiders had their chances to score in the second period, and they also had the only powerplay in the second, but Brayden Peters stood tall, turning aside 21 of 22 shots through 40 minutes. Calgary took a 3-1 lead into the final regulation stanza.
In the third, the Hitmen added three more goals to secure the victory. Brandon Whynott got the third period rolling with his first goal of the campaign with 11:49 left in the game. Just over four minutes later, Jacob Wright made it 5-1, which chased Tikhon Chaika out of the net, replaced between the pipes by Max Hildebrand.
Hildebrand faced five shots in 7:56 in action, giving up one goal. Danis scored his second of the game with 3:55 to go in the game, making it a 6-1 Hitmen lead, and that would be the final.
Peters took home first star honours with 35 saves on 36 shots. With two goals and an assist, Danis was named the game's second star. And with his goal in the first period, Herman was named the third star.
The Raiders fall to 2-6-2-0 with the loss. The team is back in action on Friday night when they kick off a three game in three night road trip in Alberta to take on the Edmonton Oil Kings.
