Round Two
These two clubs met in the season opener on Sept. 24 in what became a 3-0 Winterhawks shutout victory, but nothing is guaranteed in the rematch. For one thing, there are a handful of new faces in the Blazers' lineup that bring some NHL-caliber firepower.
Logan Stankoven, Matthew Seminoff, Fraser Minten, Caedan Bankier and Daylan Kuefler were all away at pro camps during the earlier contest between Portland and Kamloops, but are back in Blazers uniforms for this matchup. It's a big test for the 6-0-0 Winterhawks, who boast some impressive firepower in their own right.
Bottom line? Strap yourselves in for what should be a very thrilling game!
Cheers! It's Hawktoberfest!
A fan-favorite returns to the VMC! Join us for FREE beer tastings from some of Portland's favorite breweries!
The free tastings will be held outside Entry MM on the VMC concourse, and the brewery lineup includes:
10 Barrel Brewery
Avid Cider
Backwoods Brewing
Ecliptic Brewing
Laurelwood Brewing
Stickmen Brewing
Widmer Brothers Brewery
PLUS - it's your first chance to try the all-new Light the Lamp West Coast IPA, a collaboration between the Winterhawks and Backwoods Brewing! Light the Lamp will be available at VMC concession stands, the Winterhawks Skating Center and Backwoods brewpubs throughout this season!
Welcome Back, Don!
Tonight also marks the return of former Winterhawks Associate Coach Don Hay, who accepted a coaching role with the Blazers in August. Hay's return to the Blazers organization allowed him to be closer to his family in Kamloops and gives the four-time Memorial Cup winner the chance to compete for another as Kamloops hosts the tournament in 2023.
"Don helped our program immensely over the last four years. We were fortunate as an organization to have the winningest coach in WHL history as part of our staff. Everyone benefited from having Don around," said Winterhawks Senior Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston at the time of Hay's departure.
Keep an eye out for a special video tribute to Don as we show our appreciation for his years in Portland!
