Rochester Red Wings News Release
COLUMBUS, OH - The Red Wings got off to a HOT start on the first official day of Summer.
The Wings rode a five-run first inning and a quality outing from Andrew Albers to cruise past the Columbus Clippers 8-2 Monday night at Huntington Park.
The victory - Rochester's IL-leading 43rd of the season - was their first at Huntington Park since May 4, 2013, snapping an eight-game losing streak in Columbus.
Clippers starter Will Roberts walked the bases loaded in the first inning before Eddie Rosario drove home the first two runs with an RBI single to left-center. Two batters later Buck Britton crushed a 2-2 offering from Roberts off the scoreboard in right staking the Wings to a 5-0 lead. Britton finished the day with four RBI.
Jorge Polanco added to the lead in the second delivering an RBI double down the right field line to score James Beresford who drew two of the four walks issued by Roberts - all of which came around to score.
Albers was solid over seven frames allowing just two runs - solo shots from Michael Choice in the 2nd and Yandy Diaz in the 6th. He yielded just three other hits and one walk while striking out six to earn his 6th win of the season.
Rosario picked up two more hits Monday including a double and two RBI. Over his last 24 games, the Wings outfielder is hitting .394 (37-for-94) with seven doubles, four homers and 19 RBI.
Marcus Walden pitched a pair of scoreless innings behind Albers.
With Scranton/WB enjoying an off day, Rochester upped their lead in the IL North to two games over the RailRiders.
The Wings send southpaw Jason Wheeler (5-1, 2.17) to the mound in game two of the series Tuesday night (7:05 pm first pitch).
