Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Daniel Robertson drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday night at the DBAP, giving the Durham Bulls a 3-2 victory over the Charlotte Knights in the opener of a four-game set.
Jake Goebbert got things started in the 10th with a leadoff single, and Jake Hager singled two batters later to put runners at first and second. After Charlotte botched the throw on a potential inning-ending double play, Johnny Field and Robertson drew back-to-back free passes to give Durham (31-41) the victory, and snap a five-game losing skid.
The Durham bullpen turned in a strong outing, combining for 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Dylan Floro (1-1) picked up the win by tossing two innings without allowing a hit and striking out three.
Charlotte (35-37) struck first, as former Bull Jerry Sands laced a double to lead off the second inning and later scored on an RBI single by Leury Garcia. Durham answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Goebbert doubled with two outs, and came around to score on Luke Maile's single.
In the fifth the visitors re-took the lead on a solo home run by Nicky Delmonico. However the Bulls countered once again, as Dayron Varona ripped an RBI single to left field to score Nick Franklin and tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Goebbert was the only Durham player with a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Tommy Kahnle (1-1) suffered the loss for the Knights by surrendering one run on two hits and three walks over 1 2/3 frames.
The series continues Tuesday evening when the Bulls send RHP Eddie Gamboa (2-2, 3.38) to the mound opposite RHP Tyler Danish (NR) for the Knights. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
