Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) - Court was in session on the first day of summer at McCoy Stadium, as Ryan Court's three hits and two RBI in conjunction with eight terrific innings from Sean O'Sullivan pushed the Pawtucket Red Sox to their fourth straight win, a 4-1, homestand-opening victory over the Syracuse Chiefs on Monday night.
Court, who was promoted from Double-A Portland earlier in the day, recorded a pair of RBI singles, a triple and a run scored, contributing to three of the four PawSox runs.
"It's been a long 24 hours, but it's baseball-nothing changes when you get here and I'm just glad I could put together some good at-bats and help the team win," said Court.
Brock Holt also tallied a multi-hit game for Pawtucket (37-33).
Holt, who has not seen action with Boston since May 18 due to a mild concussion, began his rehabilitation assignment for the PawSox by playing five innings in left field and going 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles.
Holt lined a double along the left field line to lead off the first inning and then scorched a double up the right center field alley to lead off the fifth inning. He was stranded on third base in both frames.
Pawtucket's four-game winning streak is its second longest of the season. The club won seven consecutive games on the season's opening road trip from April 14-20.
The PawSox have also won 13 of their last 19 games dating to May 31.
O'Sullivan (5-2) tossed eight innings, allowing one run on seven hits in the 99-pitch outing.
"He had a great mix of pitches and attacked the zone," said manager Kevin Boles. "He was very efficient and kept our defense involved."
He struck out four and delivered his first no-walk start since his first outing of the season on April 9.
"I mixed speeds real well, pitched in and out real well, and our guys played great defense behind me," said O'Sullivan.
O'Sullivan has lasted eight innings in two of his last three starts and he has thrown at least seven innings in five of his last seven Triple-A outings.
Court's RBI hits came in his first two career Triple-A at-bats, which featured very similar situations for Pawtucket.
He stepped to the plate with one out in the third inning after Henry Ramos led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a flyout. Court lined a single into left field in his first PawSox at-bat that scored Ramos with the first run of the game.
Pawtucket struck again against starter Paolo Espino (3-7) in the next inning.
Chris Marrero led off the fourth with a single and came around to score on Chris Dominguez's line drive hit that got by the diving leftfielder Tony Campana and rolled all the way to the wall for a triple.
The next batter, Court, came through again with a runner on third and one out. He lined a single over the drawn-in infield into center field that scored Dominguez to put Pawtucket on top, 3-0.
"I was just trying to stay within myself and get a good pitch to hit," said Court.
For his final trick, Court smoked a two-out triple in the eighth off the wall in center field. He scored on Jose Vinicio's two-out single that extended the PawSox lead to 4-1.
"[Court's] got versatility which we like," said Boles. "He was terrific tonight, great first game."
Syracuse (31-37) scored its run in the sixth inning on a pair of singles and Steve Lambardozzi's sacrifice fly.
Kyle Martin pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his fourth save.
The PawSox continue their five-game series against the Chiefs with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 5:35 p.m. Pawtucket lefthander Henry Owens (4-3, 3.62) is scheduled to face off with Syracuse righty A.J. Cole (5-3, 4.79) in game one. Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM) and throughout the Pawtucket Red Sox radio network begins at 5:05 p.m.
Good seats for each of the remaining games on the homestand against the Chiefs and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
