Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
KALAMAZOO, Michigan - A three goal second period for the Kalamazoo Wings (4-4-0-1) helped propel the home team to a 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones (8-3-0-0) in front of 2,628 at Wings Stadium on Saturday night.
The Wings drew first blood at the 12:06 mark when Eric Kattelus fed Sebastian Wannstrom in the right circle who scored his second goal in as many games to give the home team a 1-0 edge. And thanks to a 19-7 first period shot advantage, Kalamazoo held the one-goal lead through 20 minutes.
Kalamazoo added to their lead with three goals in a six-minute span; Yanni Gourde scored twice, one of which on a penalty shot past Michael Houser (L, 38 saves, 1-1-0-0) followed by Wannstrom's second of the night on a rebound at 10:45. Cincinnati finally found the net at 16:04 when Teddy Ruth beat Jordan Binnington (W, 30 saves, 3-2-0-0) with a wrist shot from the right circle to make it a 4-1 game after two periods.
The Cyclones pulled to within a pair just 1:08 into the final period when Logan Shaw notched his first pro goal. Unfortunately, a comeback wouldn't be in the cards as the Wings defense clamped down and prevented Cincinnati from lighting the lamp again. Ryan Del Monte added an empty netter with 49 seconds to play to seal a 5-2 victory for the Wings.
The Cyclones will return to the ice at U.S. Bank Arena on Tuesday, November 19 as they host the 2013 Education in Hockey Day. The game will intertwine hockey and learning with a special 10:30am face-off. Tickets are on sale now! Call 513.421.PUCK or visit CyclonesHockey.com to secure your seats.
