TONIGHT:
The defending Pacific Division Champion Ontario Reign (7-1-1-3) will play the Bakersfield Condors (1-9-0-1) at Rabobank Arena. This is Ontario's first trip to Bakersfield in their 11-game season series. The Reign have only seen two losses against the Condors since Head Coach Jason Christie took over; the first loss was the first game of the 2011-12 season, and to end a 17-game win streak, the Condors earned their second win toward the end of 2012-13.
Bakersfield is off to another rough start this year at the bottom of the Pacific Division and Western Conference with three points and just one regulation win, compared to the Reign who lead the Pacific Division and are second in the Western Conference with just one regulation loss and 18 points.
LEADING SCORERS:
Of Ontario's ten top scorers against the Condors last year, they have three returning with Mario Lamoureux, Derek Couture, and Dan DaSilva who are three of the top four Reign scorers so far this season. Dan DaSilva leads the Reign earning an average of 1.67 points per game and ranks third in the ECHL with 20 total points (4g, 16a).
BEHIND THE BENCH:
With Reign Head Coach Jason Christie's next win, he will surpass former Reign coach Karl Taylor in total wins. In three full seasons (217 games) behind the bench for Ontario, Coach Taylor posted a 96-win record. Coach Christie's next win will give him his 97th with the Reign, and if it happens in tonight's game, he will earn the new record after 157 games coached.
YOUNG GUNS:
Aside from the team's only veteran players, DaSilva and Couture, the top scorers are rookies or two-year pros. ECHL's 2013 All-Rookie players Mario Lamoureux and Cameron Burt are the team's third and fourth top scorers. Rookies Dylan Wruck (IR) and Zach O'Brien (loaned to Manchester) were early standouts with a Hat Trick and two game-winning goals, respectively, already earned this season. SoCal native Matt White leads the Reign against the Condors this season and has six points on the season.
