SF Bulls Earn Point in 4-3 Shootout Loss to Idaho

SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco Bulls (4-5-1-1) lost a tightly contested matchup against the Idaho Steelheads (5-4-1-0), 4-3, in a shootout, Friday night at the Cow Palace. In regulation, Rob Linsmayer, Kyle Bigos, and Dean Ouellet scored for the Bulls. Tyler Beskorowany finished with 31 saves in the loss.

The game started off with a bang. At 1:03 of the first period, Linsmayer stuffed home a rebound past Idaho netminder Josh Robinson, giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Bigos and Findlay recorded assists on the play. With just over 58 seconds left in the first period, the Steelheads responded. Justin Mercier scored on an unassisted breakaway after blocking a shot. San Francisco held the edge in shots, 11-9, through 20 minutes.

The start of the second period was largely dominated by the Steelheads. They applied more pressure and quickly evened the shots. At 5:58, the Steelheads took their first lead of the game on Mitch Wahl's power-play goal from behind the net. In the final few minutes, the Bulls grabbed back the momentum. With 3:23 remaining in the period, Ouellet scored the equalizer on a shot from the left circle. The lone assist was credited to Damon Kipp. Heading into the second intermission, the game was knotted up at 2-2.

In the third period, the two sides traded goals again. At 5:36, Bigos scored from a point shot to give San Francisco a 3-2 lead. Mark Lee and Chris Crane had the helpers. With 36.9 seconds remaining in the third, with Robinson pulled for an extra attacker, Wahl tied the game to force overtime with a power-play goal.

A scoreless overtime period then pushed the game to a shootout. In the skills competition, it took six rounds to secure an outcome. Brett Parnham, Ouellet and Mark Lee scored for the Bulls to send it into extra rounds. In the sixth round, Anthony Nigro scored the game-winner for Idaho.

The Bulls and Steelheads go at it again tomorrow night at the Cow Palace at 7:30 pm. It's Cancer Awareness Night, presented by Seton Medical Center.
