Fort Wayne, IN: The Road Warriors tied the game on three different occasions but fell in overtime by a score of 4-3 on Saturday night against the Fort Wayne Komets.
The Road Warriors began the game with several scoring opportunities but could not find the net. Despite two penalty kills, Greenville could not stop Fort Wayne's offensive attack all period. With just under five minutes left, Scott Fleming scored on a rebound goal to put the Komets up by a 1-0 score. Former Road Warriors Rob Kwiet collected an assist as well as Brandon Marino.
Brandon Hynes jump started the Road Warriors early in the second with a one-timer goal. Jordie Johnston was behind the net and found the rookie forward open in the slot to tie the game at one. Fort Wayne regained the lead halfway through the period with a wrist shot goal from Bobby Hughes. The forward stepped into the zone and fired a shot past Connor Knapp's blocker side for his fourth of the year. Lee Baldwin tied the game up at two with a snap shot atop the face-off circle just two minutes later. Just a minute later, Fort Wayne grabbed the lead again. Hughes scored his second of the game and fifth of the season.
The game was held to a 3-2 score until late in the third when Sam Klassen was credited with a goal, catching goaltender Andrey Makarov out of the net. This forced overtime with a score of three apiece.
Greenville finished off a penalty kill to Bretton Cameron in overtime. The majority of the penalty took place in the third period which brought momentum for the Road Warriors in overtime. The team had two scoring opportunities but couldn't beat Makarov. The Komets responded with a breakout up ice that brought a scramble in front of the Greenville net.
