September 24, 2023 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Rochester Red Wings dropped the season finale in Indianapolis Sunday afternoon, 5-1. A multi-hit game from SS Jordy Barley and 4.0 scoreless innings from LHP Mitchell Parker weren't enough to push Rochester into the win column on the last day of the season. With the loss, Rochester ended the season with a 66-80 record.

After a long game the night before, Rochester struck first in the fourth inning when RF Jack Dunn singled to right field and immediately stole second base on the first pitch of the next at-bat. DH Matt Adams got the scoring going in the season finale, roping a line drive down the right field line for a single, scoring Dunn, making it a 1-0 game.

A pitching change to start the bottom of the fifth allowed Indianapolis to regain the lead. 3B Josh Bissonette got the inning going with a lead-off double hit down the left field line and would eventually advance to third on a wild pitch. 2B Vinny Capra singled to left field, allowing Bissonette to score making it all squared away at 1-1. SS Nick Gonzales kept the rally going with a loud line drive double off the left field wall, which scored Capra giving the Indians a 2-1 lead. RF Ryan Vilade laced a double splitting the left and center fielders deep into the gap allowing Gonzales to score making it a 3-1 ballgame after five innings.

The offenses were stagnant over the next two and a half innings until Indianapolis struck again in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Ryan Vilade notched his fourth hit of the day to lead off the inning. LF Joe Perez was given another life after a foul pop-fly was not caught by Rochester and responded by launching a 111.8 MPH two-run home run to left field, making it a 5-1 ball game after eight innings.

Rochester went down in order in the ninth ending the 2023 season with a 5-1 loss. The Wings finish the year with a 32-41 record in the second half, and 66-80 overall.

LHP Mitchell Parker made his third start with Rochester and second start of the series this afternoon tossing 4.0 scoreless innings, on four hits, while striking out eight, his most since he struck out nine on 8/25 with Double-A Harrisburg. LHP Lucas Knowles entered the game in the top of the fifth and proceeded to throw the next 3.0 innings, giving up five runs, on six hits, while striking out four. Position player Paul Witt entered the game in relief of Knowles in the eighth inning, tossing 1.0 hitless innings.

Diamond Pro Player of the Game honors go to LHP Mitchell Parker. The New Mexico native threw 4.0 innings, giving up no runs, four hits, and struck out eight batters in today's season finale. Today's outing marks the first time in the southpaw's Triple-A career he has posted a scoreless outing, as well as a Triple-A career-high in strikeouts.

The Rochester Red Wings finished the 2023 season 66-80 overall, going 38-35 at home, while posting a record of 28-45 on the road. The Wings have had 82 players appear in a game this season which sets a single-season franchise record, passing last year's record total of 81. Rochester will take a 139-game run-scored streak into the 2024 season, dating back to 4/8-G2. Seven different Red Wings made their MLB debut in 2023, while 27 different players appeared with both Rochester and Washington.
