May 12, 2022 - International League (IL)
Durham Bulls News Release
Jonathan Aranda had two hits on the night, including a walk-off RBI to secure the win.
The Durham Bulls (13-20) defeated the Gwinnett Striper (17-16) 8-7 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Thursday night. After trailing 7-0 early, the Bulls scored eight unanswered runs to finish the game.
Gwinnett got on the board first off a groundout RBI from RF Greyson Jenista in the second. 2B Ryan Goins added another RBI to the tally, this time a single for the 2-0 lead in the fourth. Later in the fourth, Jenista would reach home plate on a walk and SS Braden Shewmake connected on a sac-fly RBI to extend the lead to 4-0 for Gwinnett. C *Chadwick Tromp *would go yard for the third consecutive game on a three-run shot to round out the six-run fourth inning.
The Bulls would come alive in the bottom of the fourth and match the Stripers six-runs in the top of the inning. SS Miles Mastrobuoni used an RBI triple to get Durham on the board and would later reach home off of a wild pitch. 2B *Jonathan Aranda *would add another RBI single to trim the deficit to 7-3. RF Josh Lowe kept the RBI party going, this time a three-run double to cut the Gwinnett lead to one. Mastrobuoni would add another RBI, a double, to his stat line in the fifth to tie the game at seven.
After a 25-minute rain delay after the seventh inning, both teams went scoreless in the eight. The Bulls would again hold the Stripers in the ninth, and, with the bases loaded and one out for Durham, Aranda would come through with the walk-off RBI single to give the Bulls their first win of the series.
Durham pitcher Joel Peguero got the start on the mound, throwing three innings and allowing one run on four hits and four strikeouts. Ralph Garza Jr. threw one inning, allowing no hits and holding the Stripers scoreless, earning up the win. Gwinnett pitcher Nick Vincent picks up the loss.
The Bulls return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Friday evening, for game four versus the Atlanta Braves' Triple-A affiliate Gwinnett Stripers. Bulls are scheduled to start LHP Josh Fleming (0-0,0.00) and the Stripers are scheduled to start RHP Kyle Muller ( 2-1,3.16). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
