Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Wheeling Nailers (15-11-0-0) exploded for a five-goal third period en route to a 7-2 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones (11-10-5-2) in front of 2,949 at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday night. With the victory, the Nailers vault Cincinnati into first place of the North Division standings.

The Cyclones jumped out front 1-0 on a tap in goal by Barret Ehgoetz, who was camped out on the doorstep and slid one past Nailers goalie Patrick Killeen (W, 18 saves, 12-5-0-0) at 3:10 of the first period. As the goal light came on, the 2,949 in attendance began throwing their teddy bears onto the ice, which will all be donated to Lighthouse Youth Services this holiday season. Wheeling bounced right back, though, with a goal of their own at 4:21 when Ben Street fed Nick Petersen who slammed home his ninth of the season to knot things at one. Luckily the Cyclones were able to regain the lead during a Wheeling power play, as Kevin Roeder intercepted a pass at center ice and broke in all alone for his second goal of the year - making it 2-1 through 20 minutes.

The Nailers found the equalizer at the 14:44 mark of period two when Danny Masse pounced on a loose puck and lifted it over Cyclones netminder Marc Cheverie (L, 22 saves, 10-6-5-2) to even the score once again. Unfortunately in the third period, Wheeling exploded for five goals by five different players; Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Ben Street, Joey Haddad, Jason DeSantis, and Kyle Bushee all found the net for the Nailers in the final frame, leading them to a 7-2 victory.

The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows:

1. Nick Petersen (1 goal, 1 assist for Wheeling)

2. Andrew Orpik (2 assists for Wheeling)

3. Kyle Bushee (1 goal, 2 assists for Wheeling)

With the weekend series against Wheeling behind them, the Cyclones will enjoy a week off for Christmas before getting back to action on Sunday, December 26 - when they'll meet the Nailers at WesBanco Arena at 5:05pm.

The defending Kelly Cup Champions will return to U.S. Bank Arena on Tuesday, December 28 for a reunion with the Toledo Walleye. It will be another Big Beer Tuesday, with $2 24-ounce Molson and Labatt Blue flowing all night long. Discounted ticket packages and single game tickets for the 2010-2011 season are available now.
