December 18, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
Gerald Coleman made 25 saves, and three different Aces scored to help the Alaska Aces beat the Stockton Thunder 3-1 for their third straight win on Friday night from Sullivan Arena. The Aces leapt past the Thunder and Las Vegas Wranglers in the standings, and have taken six of a possible eight points on their home stand so far. Alaska improved to 14-9-1 on the year, and handed Stockton their third straight road loss in regulation. The clubs will return to complete a three-game set on Saturday night at 7:15pm. The Aces scored first for the first time in five games when Scott Howes capped a three-on-two rush with a shot off a Thunder defenseman and into the net at 9:18. Stockton tied the scored on a power play late in the frame when Fraser Clair dug a puck from underneath Coleman's pads in the crease and slammed it home for the equalizer at 18:47. Alaska argued that the puck had been covered, but the goal stood and the teams went into the locker room tied at one.
The Aces pulled away in the second. Alex Dzielski scored on a shot from the right point at 5:04 of the middle period to make it 2-1, and Wes Goldie scored his fourth goal in the last two games with a five-on-three power play goal at 9:12 to increase the lead to 3-1. Goldie had two points, along with Brian Swanson, and now is tied for the ECHL lead in goal scoring with 15. That was more than enough for Coleman and company, as they held the lead for a 3-1 victory.
Gerald Coleman (10-7-1) made 25 saves on 26 shots for the win. Garrett Zemlak (2-5-1) suffered the loss, making 35 saves on 38 shots. The Aces power play went 1-6, while the Thunder went 1-4. The Aces outshot the Thunder 38-26 in the game.
The Aces and Thunder will close the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule on Saturday at 7:15pm. The Aces will wear, and auction, holiday themed jerseys at the game. Fans can also take a picture with Santa and give him their wish list at the game. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
