Last week, the Wheeling Nailers took the ice for four games in five days, including three tilts on the road. Despite picking up three of eight possible points, the Nailers put forth a strong defensive effort, limiting their opposition to just eight goals during regulation/overtime in the four contests. Mike Condon and Eric Hartzell split the duties in net for Wheeling, combining for a 1.98 goals against average and .938 save percentage. The Nailers also secured their first road victory of the season, which occurred five tries earlier than last season.
After the previous Saturday's four-goal outburst in the third period against Greenville, the Nailers continued their success in the final period on Wednesday morning, as Cody Sylvester and Jack MacLellan erased a 2-0 Kalamazoo lead, forcing overtime to earn their team a point. Unfortunately, the Wings had the upper hand in a shootout, scoring on three of five attempts for a 3-2 win on home ice. On Friday, Wheeling's road trip continued against the Fort Wayne Komets. After trailing 1-0 and 2-1, the Nailers finished with the game's final five goals, including a hat trick by Carter Rowney for a 6-2 triumph. In that game, Jack MacLellan extended his point streak to five, while Denver Manderson increased his to four. Unfortunately, the scoring came to a halt in the final two games of the week, as the Reading Royals swept a home-and-home series, 2-0 and 2-1, with Colin Mulvey accounting for the lone Wheeling marker.
This Week

Fri. 11/15: WHEELING NAILERS @ Elmira Jackals, 7:05
Sat. 11/16: Elmira Jackals @ WHEELING NAILERS, 7:00
This coming week, the Wheeling Nailers will familiarize themselves with their other Atlantic Division rival, the Elmira Jackals. Wheeling and Elmira have played once thus far this season, as the Nailers defeated the Jackals, 3-2 on opening night at WesBanco Arena. Christiaan Minella (2) and Zack Torquato had the Wheeling tallies, while Matt Carter and Jean Bourbeau accounted for the two Elmira goals. Mike Condon got the upper hand in net against Maxime Clermont. The Nailers and Jackals will begin their three-game mini-series in Wheeling on Thursday, before traveling to Elmira on Friday, and returning to Wheeling on Saturday. Since the Jackals joined the ECHL in 2007, the home teams have had the upper hand, as the Nailers have been victorious in 15 of 28 meetings at WesBanco Arena, while the Jackals have won 22 of 30 tilts at First Arena.
