Atlanta Gladiators News Release

DULUTH, Ga. - The Gladiators picked up their first regulation win this past Friday, and look to build on that this week. First, the team will finish their three game set with Greenville on Monday night, and then the team will get their first look at the Florida Everblades before heading back out on the road.

Looking Ahead:

Monday, 11/11: Game at Greenville, 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday, 11/12: TBD

Wednesday, 11/13: Practice, the Arena at Gwinnett Center, 10:30 a.m.

Thursday, 11/14: Practice, the Arena at Gwinnett Center, 10:00 a.m.; Game vs. Florida, 7:05 p.m.

Friday, 11/15: Game vs. Greenville, 7:05 p.m.

Saturday, 11/16: Practice, Duluth Ice Forum, 10:30 a.m.

Sunday, 11/17: Game at South Carolina, 3:00 p.m.

Scouting the Opponents:

- Connor Knapp [Greenville] has faced the Gladiators twice this season, compiling a 1-1 record against them. Despite the 2-3 record, Knapp is fifth in the league with a .942 save percentage, and 13th in the league with a 2.01 GAA.

- Matthew Pistilli [Florida] is lapping the league in offense, being the only player to hit double digit goals so far (10). Pistilli also sits in third place with 10 assists, and is second with 20 points. The 25-year-old Montreal-native is currently on a four game point streak, and has notched a point in all but two of the 11 games he's played so far.

- Jeff Jakaitis [South Carolina] has been used early and often for South Carolina head coach Spencer Carbery, as he leads the league in appearances (9) and minutes (544). And there is good reason the former Gladiator has been relied on heavily; Jaikitis holds the best record in the league (7-0-1-1), is ninth in save percentage (.932), and 11th in goals against average (1.87)

Looking Back:

Friday, November 8th: Gwinnett 3, @ Greenville 1 - W

The Gladiators picked up their first regulation and road victory as Devon Krogh scored the game-winner early in the third period and Peter Delmas shut down the Road Warriors. Kurtis Bartliff scored early for the Glads while Evan Bloodoff sealed the win with a late empty net goal. Delmas stopped 30 of 31 shots on the evening in his first win of the year.

Saturday, November 9th: Greenville 2, @ Gwinnett 1 - L

Greenville came back the next night, playing up to the Gladiators level as the two fought a close game through the entire 60 minutes. Neither side could take advantage of their power plays as Greenville went 0-for-5 while Gwinnett finished 0-for-9, including a 5-on-3 with under two minutes left in the game. Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored on a shorthanded breakaway midway through the third period to give the Road Warriors their win. Marshall Everson scored his first professional goal as the Gladiators lone tally, while Peter Delmas stopped 28-of-30 in his second straight night of action.

Glads Notes:

Welcome Back Belzy: Forward Alex Belzile made his 2013-14 debut last night in Greenville, flying around the ice and logging five shots with an even plus-minus rating. As a rookie last season Belzile finished with 10 goals and 20 assists in 30 games in Gwinnett, while racking up eight points in 14 games with AHL Hamilton.

Milestones: Veteran Dirk Southern played in his 201st ECHL game on Saturday ... Forward Joey Haddad is eight games away from 100 as a Gladiator.

The Delly is Open for Business: The Montreal Canadiens assigned goaltender Peter Delmas to the Gladiators on November 1st. Delmas had spent the past three seasons between Wheeling (ECHL) and Hamilton (AHL), and backstopped the Nailers to the Eastern Conference Final during the 2010-11 season when former Gladiators Head Coach John Wroblewski was an assistant there. Delmas made 26 saves in his Gwinnett debut on November 2nd in South Carolina, and picked up his first win as a Gladiator last Friday in Greenville.

Everybody Do Your Share: Of the 20 skaters that played in the first 10 games, 18 have at least a point for the Gladiators. Brenden Walker, Jonathan Narbonne, Kurtis Bartliff, Philippe Halley, and Devon Krogh have scored their first professional goals so far this season, and 12 different Gladiators have scored at least one goal this season.

Food For Thought: The last two Kelly Cup winners have gone a combined 3-9-2-0 in the month of October. It took the defending Kelly Cup Champion Reading Royals seven games to get their first win last season.
