Atlanta Gladiators News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Evan Bloodoff scored twice, and Mike Lee made 29 saves in his first start of the season for Gwinnett as the Gladiators knocked off the Greenville Road Warriors 3-1 Monday night at the Bon Secour Wellness Arena.
Bloodoff's team-leading fourth goal of the season gave Gwinnett (3-8) the 1-0 edge through one period. The forward capitalized on a Road Warrior turnover in the offensive zone, spun around, and sniped a wicked wrister from the high slot over the left shoulder of a stunned Road Warriorgoalie Connor Knapp.
Bloodoff struck again just 1:27 into the second, this time shorthanded. The Nelson, British Columbia native led a two-on-one rush off a feed from Justin Weller, and beat Knapp over his far side should with another impressive shot to push the Gladiators ahead by two.
Sacha Guimond gave the Gladiators some breathing room in the third, blasting a slapper past a screened Knapp at 3:37 for his first goal of the season. Brenden Walker and MarshallEverson picked up their first pro assists on the play.
Greenville (4-7) did make it a game late, as Marc-Olivier Vallerand's second shorthanded goal in as many games against Gwinnett at 16:56 cut the Gladiators lead to two. That would be as close as the Warriors would get however, as Greenville dropped to 0-4 at home to start the season.
Both teams finished with 30 shots, and an 0-for-4 mark on the power play.
The Gladiators return home this Thursday and Friday, hosting the Florida Everblades for two 7:05 p.m. matchups.
The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league and are affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
