NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Rob Whalen allowed just two hits across six scoreless innings to lead the Tacoma Rainiers (30-33) to a 1-0 victory over the Nashville Sounds (30-30) Saturday night at First Tennessee Park in Nashville.

Left fielder Ian Miller (1x3, R), right fielder Andrew Aplin (1x3, 2B, BB) and first baseman Evan White (1x4) led the way on offense for Tacoma as it improved to 28-0 when leading after seven innings.

Miller led off the game with a single to center field, advanced to second on a walk, stole third, and came around to score when designated hitter Kirk Nieuwenhuis lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 1-0 Tacoma.

The Rainiers lead was preserved by a spectacular start from Whalen and a combined three scoreless innings from left hander Ariel Miranda (2.0 IP) and right hander Ryan Garton (1.0).

Tacoma and Nashville return to action Sunday at 4:15 p.m. for game three of the current four-game series. Righty Casey Lawrence (4-2, 2.79) will get the start for the Rainiers and left hander Eric Jokisch will be on the bump for the Sounds.
