Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies hit two home runs during a five-run first inning, putting the Oklahoma City Dodgers in a hole they could not climb out of in an 8-5 loss Friday night at Chukchansi Park.

After the first batter of the bottom of the first inning struck out, the next two each walked before A.J. Reed swatted a three-run homer to center field, putting the Grizzlies up 3-0.

Following another walk, Derek Fisher then hit a two-run homer to make it a 5-0 advantage.

Fresno (37-24) added a run on a RBI double by Jon Kemmer in the fourth inning as the Dodgers faced their largest deficit of the night.

The Dodgers (35-22) got their offense going in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. Travis Taijeron hit a RBI double, and Angelo Mora added a two-out RBI single to pull OKC within 6-2.

However, Fresno responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to push the lead back to six runs.

The Dodgers steadily battled back, scoring one run in each of the next three innings. Taijeron picked up his second RBI on a single in the sixth. Kyle Farmer added a RBI in the seventh, and Matt Beaty hit a sharp groundout to plate another run in the eighth to cut the Fresno lead to 8-5.

Later in the eighth inning, the Dodgers brought the tying run to the plate, but Fresno reliever Brendan McCurry struck out Henry Ramos to end the inning.

Alex Verdugo drew a leadoff walk in the ninth, but James Hoyt retired the next three batters to end the game and earn his fifth save.

The Dodgers ended up outhitting the Grizzlies, 11-8, but could only go 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Taijeron and Verdugo led the Dodgers with three hits each, with Kyle Garlick adding two hits and two runs. Friday was Taijeron's second consecutive game with at least three hits.

Fresno starting pitcher Mike Hauschild (4-5) earned the win, allowing three runs and seven hits over 5.2 innings. He walked two and struck out six.

Pressed into spot starting duty after a series of roster moves, Emmanuel De Leon could not get out of the first inning. He was charged with five runs while recording just one out. Both hits De Leon (0-1) surrendered left the ballpark, and he walked four of the seven batters he faced.

The Dodgers look to bounce back 9:05 p.m. Central time Saturday at Chukchansi Park. Live coverage begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
