Fresno Grizzlies News Release
In front of a crowd of 10,831, the Fresno Grizzlies (37-24) were triumphant over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (35-22) 8-5 Friday night at Chukchansi Park. Fresno starter Mike Hauschild (4-5) earned the win after hurling five and two-thirds frames. He scattered seven hits, three runs (earned), walking a pair and punching out six. Hauschild notched his 26th victory as a Grizzly, placing him two wins behind Eric Hacker for most all-time in franchise history. Fresno improved to 13-3 in the first game of a set and 4-4 in three-run affairs.
Fresno exploded to a 5-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back walks to Kyle Tucker and Tyler White set the scene for AJ Reed. He smashed a three-run dinger to center field, his team-leading 12th longball of the year. It was also his 61st homer in a Grizzlies uniform, tying Scott McClain for fourth all-time. After another walk, Derek Fisher (2-for-3) launched the second Fresno round-tripper of the inning, a two-run blast to center field. It was his second clout of the season. That would end the line for Dodgers' starter Emmanuel De Leon (0-1, loss). He lasted one-third of an inning, allowing two hits, five runs (both courtesy of the shots), walking four and fanning one.
Jon Kemmer made it 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth when he lasered a double to the right-center gap, plating Jack Mayfield. With the single by Mayfield, it pushed his team-high hit streak to eight games.
Oklahoma City cut the deficit to 6-2 in the top of the fifth after a Travis Taijeron (3-for-4) RBI double and an Angelo Mora RBI single.
Tucker led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple off the left field wall. He would scamper home on a White RBI single. White would score three batters later on a Fisher RBI single to right field.
Taijeron added a third run for the Dodgers in the top of the sixth with a single to center field, knocking in Alex Verdugo (3-for-4). A sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh made it 8-4 Grizzlies. Oklahoma City inched closer in the top of the eighth with a groundout to first.
James Hoyt worked around a leadoff walk and was rewarded with his fifth save of the year. He fanned one for an 8-5 Grizzlies win.
Both squads continue the series with game two of four Saturday night from Chukchansi Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT. Fresno RHP Trent Thornton (4-3, 3.20) gets the nod while Oklahoma City has yet to announce a starter.
