Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (37-26) blasted three home runs in the eighth inning but could not finish their comeback bid and lost game two to the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks), 8-5, Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
Memphis dug itself an 8-0 hole, giving up four runs in the first, another in the third, and three more in the fifth. Carson Kelly and Max Schrock both hit solo home runs in the span of three batters in the eighth inning, and Ramon Urias clubbed a pinch-hit, two-run blast to cap the four-run frame and bring the Redbirds within 8-5. But Memphis could not push any more across in the ninth and dropped the contest.
Oscar Mercado was on base five times with a single, a double, and three walks, and Kelly added a double along with his home run. Randy Arozarena scored twice on two walks.
Anthony Recker hit a pair of three-run home runs to power the Aces.
Ryan Helsley started for Memphis and allowed five runs on six hits in 3.0 innings. To cap the night, rehabbing Matt Bowman and Greg Holland tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings.
Memphis was 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base. The Redbirds are 1-for-21 with runners prepared to score in the two games against Reno so far this series.
The four-game series continues tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m., before concluding Monday afternoon at 12:05. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visit www.memphisredbirds.com.
