DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (23-37) could only get a quick two runs in Trevor Clifton's debut as they fall to the El Paso Chihuahuas (31-32) 4-2 Saturday night at Principal Park.

The Iowa Cubs were the first to score in the bottom of the third inning as David Bote mashed his ninth home run of the season over the right field wall to make it 1-0. Iowa also added another run later in the third on a passed ball, scoring Victor Caratini to make it 2-0.

Even though Iowa scored first, the Chihuahuas quickly responded in the top of the fourth inning by knocking in two runs off starter Clifton.

Clifton was recently promoted from Double-A Tennessee where he posted a 3-4 record with a 2.86 ERA before picking up a no decision in his first career Triple-A start.

The winning run of the night proved to be a home run from Javy Guerra off Brad Markey in the top of the sixth inning.

After the Chihuahuas home run in the sixth inning, the game went quiet. The I-Cubs did see appearances from Dakota Mekkes who fanned four straight El Paso batters in the eighth inning before Hancock took over with two out and the bases loaded. The Chihuahuas did get an insurance run off of Hancock in the ninth, but the I-Cubs had no response.

Iowa just wasn't able muster up the offense to win the game. The team only registered four hits, two by Bote, compared to El Paso's 12.

The Iowa Cubs and El Paso Chihuahuas will have a quick turnaround with first pitch at 1:08 p.m. at Principal Park. Tomorrow's promotions include, Kids Run the Bases Post-Game, Pedal to the Park, Food Pantry, Knothole Gang, and Family 4 Pack. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
