
Kelly stifles Sky Sox offense in series opener

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (30-32) took game one against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (31-28) 4-1 on Orange Friday at Raley Field behind a stellar outing from right-hander Casey Kelly.
Kelly held the Sky Sox scoreless through the first four innings and finished with six strikeouts in his seven innings. The veteran picked up his team-leading sixth win while lowering his ERA to 5.12. Kelly has also tossed at least six innings in each of his last four starts and is second in the PCL with 70.1 innings pitched.
The River Cats broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Gregor Blanco tripled and scored on a single from Chris Shaw. Colorado Springs tied the score 1-1 in the fifth, but the River Cats scored three runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead.
The River Cats are back in action tomorrow for game two of this four game series. Left-handed pitcher Matt Gage (2-4, 6.91) is expected to be reinstated from the Disabled List to start for Sacramento, and he'll face off with right-hander Alec Asher (2-2, 3.30). Additional Notes
- Blanco's fourth inning triple was his first hit since joining the River Cats roster today. Blanco had three triples in 42 games with the San Francisco Giants this season.
- The bullpen tandem of Tyler Rogers and Derek Law combined for two hitless innings and two strikeouts to seal the game one victory. Law nailed down his fourth save of the season.
