Weston Wilson Goes Yard But Mets Rally Past 'Pigs Late

Allentown, Pennsylvania - Weston Wilson smashed a go-ahead two-run homer in the third for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (12-22) but the Syracuse Mets (21-14) scored twice in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to pull away in for an 8-3 win on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The 'Pigs managed to score the first run of the game in the second. Simon Muzziotti doubled to open the inning and Nick Podkul walked. A fielder's choice put runners at the corners where Scott Kingery drove in Muzziotti with a sacrifice fly.
Syracuse jumped in front in the third. Ben Gamel drew a bases loaded walk and Mark Vientos put the Mets ahead with a fielder's choice plating another run.
Wilson belted his second homer of the season, a two-run shot, to vault the 'Pigs back ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the third.
The 'Pigs held serve until the seventh when the Mets went back ahead. Game tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Vientos drove in Luisangel Acuna from first base with a double to make it 4-3 Mets.
In the eighth, Trayce Thompson homered to begin the frame, his seventh of the year for the Mets. Acuna drove in another run with a double, making it 6-3.
Two bases loaded walks in the ninth gave the Mets two more insurance runs and putting the final score at 8-3.
Eric Orze (2-0) earned the win in relief for the Mets, working two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and two walks, striking out two.
Nick Nelson (0-1) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, allowing two runs in 1.1 frames, on three hits.
The 'Pigs and Mets square off again on Saturday, May 11 with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. David Buchanan (2-2, 4.11) toes the rubber for the 'Pigs while the Mets counter with Dom Hamel (1-2, 6.58).
