
Britton Earns 400th Win Of Career In Tides Blowout

MEMPHIS, Tn - The Norfolk Tides (19-18) defeated the Memphis Redbirds (18-18), 12-4, on Friday at AutoZone Park. The win marked Tides manager Buck Britton's 400th win of this career and clinches a series split.
The scoring barrage started in the first inning when Billy Cook knocked an RBI double. He scored on a two-run single by Nick Maton to put the Tides up 3-0.
Memphis was able to grab one run on an RBI groundout by Jordan Walker. But Norfolk hit hard again with five runs in the second. Connor Norby knocked an RBI single. With the bases loaded, Cook knocked a three-run triple then scored on a Maton double to put the Tides up, 8-1.
The Redbirds got another run back when Victor Scott II ripped an RBI triple, but Norfolk added three more runs in the third, including a two-run homer by Coby Mayo. That was later followed by an RBI infield single by Hudson Haskin to put Norfolk up 11-2.
Mayo went on to knock in the final run for the Tides in the sixth on an RBI single. Memphis scored two runs in the sixth themseleves on a two-run double by Jared Young. That was proven to be the final offense of the day for both sides, as the Tides won, 12-4.
Game five of the series is at 4:05 p.m. tomorrow night. LHP Bruce Zimmermann (2-3, 4.58) is on the hill for Norfolk, while RHP Andre Pallante (1-0, 1.29) will start for the Sounds.
POSTGAME NOTES
Buck In Here: Today's win marked manager Buck Britton's 400th career regular season win as a manager...he began his managing career in 2018 with Single-A Delmarva and went 68-66...he was promoted to Bowie's manager position in 2019 and managed through the 2021 season with a 149-111 record, getting two postseason appearances and a league manager award in the 2019 season...Britton has been the manager for Norfolk since the 2022 season, boasting a 183-135 record.
Extra Mayo: Leading today's offensive production was Coby Mayo, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, a double, a home run, three RBI and a walk...the 12 home runs matches his Triple-A regular season total from 2023, but has done so in 2024 in 25 less games...the rest of the International League plays tonight, but he currently leads the International League in hits (46), home runs, RBI (36), and extra-base hits (23), while also ranking in slugging percentage (7th, .609) and runs (7th, 27).
Five Hits for Nick: Going 5-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI today was Nick Maton...that tied his career-high, which he did with Toledo at Columbus on September 6, 2023...Maton becomes the third Tide this season to record five hits...only Liover Peguero of Indianapolis has had a five-hit game in the International League this season...the fourth hit was the 150th of Maton's Triple-A career...overall it was his third multi-hit effort for Norfolk this season.
Stay Cookin': Another Tide that was one hit short of the cycle today was Billy Cook, who went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, four RBI and a walk...it was his fourth multi-hit effort with Norfolk this season... it's the fifth time this season Cook has reached base safely at least three times with Norfolk, with four of those instances happening on this road trip.
