Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Miami Marlins' left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk will continue an injury rehabilitation assignment presented by H2 Health for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Friday when they take on the Omaha Storm Chasers from Werner Park.

Puk has been on the 15-day injured list since April 20 after suffering from shoulder fatigue. With Miami, the southpaw has made four starts. On his current rehab assignment, he has appeared in three games between the FCL Marlins and Low-A Jupiter, throwing a total of 1.2 innings.

The 2024 campaign is his fifth in the major leagues. In 2023, the lefty spent the majority of the season with the Marlins while making three rehab starts with Double-A Pensacola. In the bigs, Puk went 7-5 record accompanied with a 3.97 ERA in 58 appearances, while fanning 78 batters out of the bullpen.

In 2022, Puk posted a 3.12 ERA in 62 appearances for the Oakland Athletics with 76 punchouts in 66.1 innings.

Puk made 38 Triple-A appearances on his rise to the major leagues across the 2019 and 2021 seasons, both with the Las Vegas Aviators.

A native of Minneapolis, Min., the Athletics drafted Puk in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft out of the University of Florida. He made his major league debut for Oakland on August 21, 2019 against the New York Yankees. He pitched a third of an inning while surrendering one hit and a walk. Puk registered his first MLB strikeout five days later on August 26, 2019, when he fanned Nicky Lopez and Jorge Soler of the Kansas City Royals.

Puk is the sixth Marlin to embark on an injury rehabilitation assignment presented by H2 Health with Jacksonville, following right-hander Edward Cabrera (March 31-April 15), left-hander Braxton Garrett (April 5-May 6), catcher Christian Bethancourt, April 19-24), right-hander JT Chargois (April 21-27) and infielder Jake Burger (May 1-6).
