July 20, 2015 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release
Pablo Reyes hit a tie-breaking home run with two outs in the seventh inning, and the West Virginia Power held on for an 8-7 win over the Lexington Legends Monday night in Charleston. The win completed a four-game sweep by West Virginia.
After the Power scored a run in the first inning, the Legends took charge with four runs in the second. The inning began with singles by Wander Franco and Lexington native Anderson Miller, who had two hits in four at bats in the game. Brandon Downes grounded into a force play at second base, but Alexis Rivera followed with a double to left field, scoring Franco and sending Downes to third. Michael Hill's single brought Downes home, and Rivera came home on a single by Luis Valenzuela. DonAndre Clark's single scored Hill, giving the Legends a 4-1 lead.
But the Power came back with two runs in the bottom of the second. Back-to-back doubles by Reyes and Elvis Escobar produced a run. Escobar moved to third on a single by Taylor Gushue and scored on a ground out by Trace Tam Sing, leaving the Legends with a 4-3 margin.
Hill's two-run triple in the third gave the Legends a 6-3 lead, but the Power moved ahead with single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Gushue hit his third home run of the year leading off the fourth, and he scored the tie-breaker in the sixth when he led off with a walk, moved to second on Tam Sing's sacrifice and came home on Jordan Luplow's double.
The Legends tied it with a run in the top of the seventh with the help of two West Virginia errors, but Reyes homered with two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the seventh to give West Virginia the go-ahead run that stood up for the win.
Yeudy Garcia (8-5), who reliever starter Alex McRae at the start of the fifth inning and finished the game, got the win.
Emilio Ogando (5-6), who replaced starter Foster Griffin with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, was the losing pitcher.
After an off day Tuesday, the Legends return home for seven games. A three-game series with Rome will be followed by a four-game set against Hickory. Game time Wednesday is 12:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
