
Aramis Garcia Named SAL Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets, Single "A" affiliate of the 2014 World Champion San Francisco Giants, are proud to announce that catcher Aramis Garcia has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week. This week's award dates range from July 13th through July 19th.
During the week of his award, Garcia played in five games. He hit for a mind blowing .476 average, .455 on base percentage, and .952 slugging. Garcia boosted his RBI total from 42 to 52 and added three more home runs to his resume. Out of his 21 plate appearances Garcia, struck out only three times and walked zero. All five games have been during the GreenJackets seven game road trip to Greenville and Hickory. These impressive numbers earned him the top spot in the SAL.
For Garcia though, it has not just been the last week that his bat has been heating up. The 2014 Second Round Draft Pick has been tearing the cover off the ball ever since the All-Star break at the end of June. In just 22 games Garcia is batting .358, 11 runs scored, and 22 RBI. In the first half Garcia managed to hit seven home runs in 48 games, he his hit six home runs so far in the second half. He managed to hit five of his six home runs in a seven game span.
Behind the plate Garcia's defense has had it moments of impressive spurts. In the 59 games behind the plate, Garcia has a defensive percentage of .989 and has thrown out 32 base runners. Every day Garcia is improving and climbing higher and higher among the ranks of the MiLB's up and coming prospects.
Aramis Garcia now joins the ranks of third baseman Jonah Arenado (April 27- May 3rd) and pitcher Matt Gage (July 6th - July 12th) as the two other Augusta GreenJacket players to be recognized as the SAL player of the week winners.
The GreenJackets and Player of the Week winner Garcia, finish up their road trip tonight in Hickory at 7:05pm. They will be able to spend their Tuesday relaxing at home before they begin a seven game homestand starting on Wednesday at 7:05pm against the Greenville Drive.
